What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient therapy for modern times. It is suitable for men, women and children and is an integrative modality for treating acute and chronic illnesses while receiving conventional treatments.

How Does Acupuncture work?

The science of acupuncture dates back thousands of years to traditional Chinese medical practices based on the concept of Qi. Qi is understood as vital energy that flows throughout specific pathways known as meridians, of which there are thought to be 14 main meridian pathways. This flow of vital energy is believed to provide health and balance to the body, protecting it from disease and pain, while also nourishing and energizing every cell, tissue, and organ in your body. Acupuncture is believed to activate this vital energy known as Qi by accessing the meridians through which it flows through various acupuncture points. While the science of Qi is uncertain, experts have found that acupuncture does indeed have many significant and repeatable health benefits. With that in mind, there are 350 acupuncture points in your body. Hair-thin needles are inserted into some of these acupuncture points, according to the symptoms or condition the patient is seeking acupuncture treatment for. In doing so, the acupuncture points stimulate increased blood flow and trigger your body’s natural painkillers. While the mention of needles may make you uncomfortable, it is well-worth noting that acupuncture is relatively painless, besides a slight tingling or stinging sensation, and some individuals even find the process highly relaxing! Moreover, the pain relief acupuncture can provide makes it all worth it.
